Route: From Burthwaite following the Corpse Road up to the top and back the same way.
The rain has arrived as promised although today looks like it will be just light showers but with strong winds so we decide to climb two smaller mountains which are close together with Ling Fell first on the list.
We manage to find a parking spot in Burthwaite tucked into the roadside at the bottom of our path. We follow the Corpse Road which rises at a gentle even gradient. As the path reaches the west end of the hill we turn left up a distinct path which now climbs more steeply.
We take a final right turn and strike out on the heathery hillside for the last 250ft to the top of Ling Fell:
It’s a very pleasant top but views towards Skiddaw are in full cloud.
Broom Fell is all that can be seen to the south west:
We can see the foot of Bassenthwaite to the north east:
We retrace our steps back down to the car and then drove a short distance to the foot of Sale Fell.
