The Coast to Coast Walk is a 192-mile long-distance footpath from the Irish sea at St Bees to the North sea at Robin Hood’s Bay devised by Wainwright in 1973. It passes through the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. We have already completed the Pennine Way and the Cotswold Way and the Coast to Coast was on our wish-list as a must do walk.
We don’t do these walks the traditional way – we’re not fit enough for the back to back days of walking or the very long distances you can’t avoid on some days when you need to find accommodation at the end of each day. We devised our methodology when we first decided we wanted to walk the Pennine Way and it worked well for us.
We use two cars, both driving to the end point of a day’s walk, parking one car and driving the other one to the start point. At the of the day we have to drive the end-point car back to the start and then both drive home separately. We did the Pennine way in one or two week holidays over five years – finding a holiday cottage roughly halfway between the section we planned to walk each time. The Cotswold Way we could do at weekends from home.
